Hello!
Welcome to my ePortfolio! My name is Emily and I am a Registered Nurse from Burlington, ON. I am currently working as a public health nurse for Halton Region. I was redeployed from my home program of sexual health and harm reduction to assist with the COVID-19 pandemic response from March 2020 to February 2022. While working with the COVID-19 pandemic response, I worked from home as a clinical support/ team lead for the case and contact management team. Follow along as I pursue my Master of Health Studies degree through Athabasca University. Join me as I strengthen my understanding of emerging health trends and improve my leadership skills to respond to the rapidly evolving health system.
Positionality Statement
I come from a middle-class family and identify as a Canadian, white, cisgender and heterosexual woman. I recognize that many of these things contribute to my privilege in life. I was born and raised in Burlington, Ontario and continue to live in the same region today. I have worked as a Public Health Nurse for 5 years and currently work in Sexual Health and Harm Reduction. Who I am today has been significantly influenced by my experiences working in public health, especially within my current program. I have had the opportunity to work with people who are disproportionately affected by sexually transmitted and blood-borne infections, such as people who are incarcerated, the medically underserved, people who use drugs or inject drugs, youth and young adults, men who have sex with men, and sex workers. I understand that my position within the health care system will continue to evolve through my experiences, further education, and training throughout my career. I strive to lead with empathy and continually work to improve upon my own knowledge and understanding of the social injustices faced by community members and those around the world.
